Hardware

Commell

Commel devices are used as Research Devices. They are based on Commell LE-575X boards, equipped with 2 GB RAM, 8 GB CompactFlash storage and two Compex WLM200NX a/g/n WiFi cards in an watertight aluminium casing.

Mini-ITX-Barebones

This mini-pc are used as the new Research Devices. They have 4GB DDR3 RAM and a 120GB SSD over SATA. The CPU is a INTEL® Cedar Trail-M Processor N2600 (1.6GHz). http://www.jetway.com.tw/jw/barebone_view.asp?productid=969&proname=JBC372F36-2600-B%20/%20JBC372F36W-2600-B . At the moment we use a 2GHz wifi card. In the future we want to switch to 5GHz.

Bullet

The Community Devices are based on Ubiquity Bullets. Those are eqipped with 4 MB or 8 MB (“M”-Variant) flash storage and an build-in IEEE 802.11g (Bullet 2) or IEEE 802.11a (Bullet 5) adapter. In the FKIE CN, all Bullets are running an OpenWRT operating systems.

Testbeds

At the time of this writing, one testbed exists which consists of five Commell indoor nodes. Since the beginning of October we expanded the network to 15 nodes. The new ten Nodes are Mini-ITX-Barebones. Interconnectivity is available on the Commell-Boards via two wifi cards running on 5200 MHz (wlan0) and 5240 MHz (wlan1). At the Barebones we have one wifi card running on 2462Mhz (wlan0).

Nodes

Regular nodes consist of one Community Device and one Research Device, which are directly interconnected. What is a Research Devices and What is a Community Devices can be read at this link. http://wiki.confine-project.eu/arch:node

Access nodes include a switch on the local LAN and allow to connect additional devices to the Testbed (e.g. User Terminals, Servers, etc.).

Addressing

The FKIE testbed runs IPv6/IPv4 in dual-stack without NAT. The CN uses the following address ranges:

fdb4:5429:38e9::/48 (IPv6) and 10.64.0.0/16 (IPv4)

fd04:1b47:e492::/48 is used for the Overlay network

The address space of a node “N” is structured as follows:

  • fdb4:5429:38e9::N/128 and 10.64.0.N/32: The CD/CN mesh ID
  • fdb4:5429:38e9:N::/64 and 10.64.N.0/24: The local net
  • fdb4:5429:38e9:N::1 and 10.64.N.1: The CD in the LN
  • fdb4:5429:38e9:N::2 and 10.64.N.2: The RD in the LN
  • 10.64.N.64/26: LN address space for static sliver configuration (stateless autoconf may be used for IPv6)
  • 10.64.N.128/26: LN address space for DHCP configuration
